The Israeli government does not want to close schools again

Israel has announced that it will offer the possibility of vaccination for children three years of age and older on the eve of the beginning of the new school year.

Despite the increase in the number of infections in the country linked to the Delta variant, the Israeli government wants to avoid postponing the start of the school year, scheduled for September 1. Israel has started vaccinating children over 12 years of age and this serological testing campaign is aimed at children aged 3 to 12 years.

In Israel, about 30% of children aged 12-15 have received two doses of the vaccine. This figure is much lower than any other age group.

Some members of the government cabinet have opposed the idea of vaccination in schools. The Israeli government approved new containment measures and offered a third dose of the vaccine for people aged 40 and over and teachers.

Israel was one of the first to launch a widespread vaccination campaign in mid-December, which drastically reduced infections.

However, cases have increased again in recent weeks with the spread of the Delta variant among unvaccinated adults, but also among people who received their doses more than six months ago.
