Incendiary balloons set fires across Israeli fields
Israel carried out airstrikes on Hamas sites in Gaza in response to previous attacks by the Palestinian side as well as in retaliation for incendiary balloons.
So far, no casualties have been reported, but material damage has been caused.
An Egyptian-brokered ceasefire ended the 11-day Israel-Hamas conflict in May, but Gaza militants have sporadically sent balloons carrying incendiary materials into Israel.
The balloons released on Monday set fires in Israeli fields along the border with Gaza.
Incendiary balloons are a common tactic used by Palestinian militants in the Gaza Strip, which has been under a strict Israeli blockade since 2007, when Hamas took power there.
Cross-border violence has increased sharply even though the countries appeared to have a fragile ceasefire. The latest escalation comes after weekend clashes at the border that left dozens injured. An Israeli border police officer and a 13-year-old Palestinian were seriously injured.
Israeli attacks during May killed more than 250 Palestinians while 13 casualties were recorded in Israel.
