Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair: Terrorist groups can create biological weapons

Radical Islam continues to be a first-order security threat, so declare the ex-prime minister of Great Britain, Tony Blair. He called on leaders from around the world to come together to develop a common strategy to combat this serious threat to their societies.

The Taliban came to power in Afghanistan last month after the United States withdrew its troops after a 20-year war, and now Britain fears their return and the vacuum left by the West's chaotic withdrawal will allow militants from Al Qaeda and the State Islamic to gain ground.

In a speech at the Royal United Services Institute's military institute, he said there was a possibility that extremist terrorist groups could develop biological weapons. "Covid-19 has taught us about deadly pathogens," he said.

Blair, who sent British troops to Afghanistan in 2001, said it was clear that "Radical Islam" had not yet declined as a force and was still present.

"In my view, Islamism, both ideology and violence, is a security threat of the first order; and it will find us, even if it is far from us, as September 11 showed", said the former British Prime Minister.

Earlier, he criticized the American president, Joe Biden, for the accelerated withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan. Tony Blair was part of the decision to intervene in Afghanistan after the 11 September attack on the USA.
