Hamas would agree to cease military activity in the Gaza Strip only if a Palestinian state were established as a result of the negotiations.
"A Hamas member declared that the movement is ready to disarm only on the condition of the creation of a Palestinian state," the statement said.
The Hamas member also stressed that stopping the movement's military activities is not possible through force and ultimatums.
"Israel has used all its military power for two years to convince Hamas to hand over its weapons, but nothing has been achieved," he added.
