The army arrests the President, after the financial crisis
Coup in Guinea. Army forces arrested President Alfa Conde, during an appearance in the state television news studio.
Army chiefs announced the dissolution of the government and the imminent establishment of an interim administration.
The cause of the coup was bauxite prices, which reached the highest level in the last 10 years. Bauxite is the basic mineral for the production of aluminum, as the subsoil of Guinea has high reserves of this mineral.
The coup was accompanied by several hours of fighting around the Presidential Palace in Conakry.
With the abrogation of the Constitution, the African country's army temporarily closed the borders, but traffic with neighboring countries was restored after the Military Junta's public statement on television.
Alfa Conde, 83, had been in power for a decade, as his popularity began to decline after winning a third term.
