Merkel openly opposes Biden to end the evacuation operation
Germany will try to relocate from Afghanistan Afghans who worked with the Germans and who want to leave even after August 31 when the US-led military evacuation operation ends. Chancellor Merkel told the Bundestag that efforts were being made to find ways through the use of Kabul's civilian airport.
"Closing the airlift within days should not mean the end of efforts to protect our Afghan partners. We must not close our eyes to the danger that appears to them. Afghanistan may once again become a breeding ground for international terrorism and this must be avoided".
Merkel said it was the largest evacuation operation in the history of the German military, with more than 4,600 people moved from Afghanistan to her country, half of them women.
