The Competition Authority in Fanca has fined the American company Google with 500 million euros for disobeying the regulator's orders to hold talks with news publishers in the country regarding copyright.
After this fine, Google must have concrete proposals ready within 2 months on how it will financially compensate news agencies and publishers in France. If he does not, he will face other fines up to 900 thousand Euros per day.
Google said it was disappointed with the decision, but would accept it.
"We have acted in good faith throughout the process. The fine ignores our efforts to come to an agreement on the reality of how news works on our platforms. We will take into consideration the feedback of the French Competition Authority and adapt our offers". a Google spokesperson said.
