They spread false information on the Internet about the anti-covid vaccination
The Facebook company has announced that it has closed a network of dozens of Facebook and Instagram profiles from Russia related to disinformation about vaccines against COVID-19. Facebook officials said they acted as a "disinformation laundromat." The accounts were linked to Fazze, an advertising and marketing firm registered in the United Kingdom. Facebook said that Fazze's work was done mainly from Russia on behalf of an unknown client.
The network published disinformation messages about vaccines against COVID-19, mainly to audiences in India, Latin America and, to a lesser extent, the United States. Facebook and other social media have faced harsh criticism, including from the US President Joe Biden, for spreading lies about vaccination, which are hindering efforts to fight the coronavirus pandemic around the world. One of the publications that made these accounts claimed that a Western vaccine would turn people into monkeys.
Analysts see the move as an attempt for geopolitical gains as Russia aims to sell its own vaccine against COVID-19.
