Tensions rise amid chaos at Kabul airport
This is the next plane that arrived during the last hours in Rome with 250 Afghan refugees, part of the contingent of those who cooperated with NATO forces during the 20-year war in Afghanistan.
In recent days, around 500 Afghan citizens have arrived in this country, out of 2500 in total who are expected to be rescued by the Italian troops who are currently there.
Meanwhile, German troops have so far evacuated 1800 Afghan NATO collaborators, along with members of the diplomatic staff. Countries such as Spain, France and Great Britain are also conducting evacuations.
But in addition to the Afghans who have cooperated with them, the troops of these countries are also rescuing collaborators of the Americans, who will not shelter them in their countries but are expected to bring them to countries like Albania, Kosovo and North Macedonia with them with which the United States has asylum agreements pending the completion of procedures that grant them asylum status.
Evacuation operations are being delayed as the situation around Kabul airport becomes more dangerous day by day. An Afghan soldier was killed after 4 o'clock in the morning this Monday, during the fight with some as yet unidentified gunmen.
While at the weekend 20 people lost their lives crushed by the chaotic crowds, as the Taliban still find it impossible to bring the situation under control.
