The Taliban refused to extend the deadline beyond August 31
Record number of evacuations from Afghanistan in the last 24 hours. The Americans alone removed over 10 people through the Kabul airport, most of them former NATO collaborators and Afghans who reject the Taliban regime.
Nearly 6 thousand others were evacuated by the troops of other Western partners such as Great Britain, Germany, Italy, France and Spain.
The allies intensified the evacuation operations, after the concern expressed especially by Great Britain that it is impossible to evacuate all foreign nationals and Afghan collaborators by August 31, requesting an extension of the deadline.
But the Taliban refuse, considering the postponement as an extension of the NATO invasion.
The leaders of the G7 countries will discuss Prime Minister Boris Johnson's proposal this Tuesday, which despite not being ruled out as a possibility by American President Joe Biden, is unlikely to happen. London has warned that many Afghan collaborators will remain in Afghanistan unable to evacuate within the deadline, risking persecution by the Taliban.
Kabul airport remains besieged by crowds desperate to flee the country. But the Taliban are trying to convince people not to leave, like this militant.
"Where is our identity? Where did honor and dignity go... Today we can't work, we can't earn money. That's why we don't leave the Americans and their servants here anymore. We don't want others to rob Afghanistan's wealth, our treasure."
Since August 15, the United States and its allies have evacuated about 50 people.
