Suspect for cannabis cultivation extradited from Albania, prosecution requests detention

The Basic Prosecution Office in Gjakova, Department for Serious Crimes, has announced that it has filed a request with the Basic Court to impose a 30-day detention measure against the defendant N.Sh., a citizen of Albania, suspected of cultivating 1,259 narcotic plants of the cannabis sativa variety.

According to the Prosecution, there is a well-founded suspicion that the defendant N.Sh., in complicity with the defendant O.Sh., from an unverified date until June 19, 2024, cultivated cannabis on three plots in the village of Panorc, Municipality of Malisheva.

The plots were located through aerial surveillance with a drone, where a total of 1,259 narcotic plants were identified.

The defendant N.Sh. has been on the run since the time of the commission of the criminal offense.

He was arrested in Albania on an international arrest warrant and then extradited to Kosovo, where the Prosecution has now requested pre-trial detention against him.

Based on the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kosovo, the case qualifies as a criminal offense "Cultivation of hashish plants, cocaine bushes or cannabis plants", Article 272 paragraph 1, in conjunction with Article 31.
