
Customs officers and mobile customs teams prevented attempts to smuggle 103 mobile phones, more than two tons of bananas, 500 packages of supplements, 400 liters of olive oil, 53 liters of black seed oil, 24 kilograms of cut tobacco, spa center equipment, around 400 pieces of cosmetics, over 100 perfumes from well-known brands, as well as domestic poultry, informs the Customs Administration.
At the "Tabanovc" border crossing, on three occasions, customs officers seized 500 packages of supplements, automotive equipment, construction tools and other expensive specialized equipment with a total value of over 1.2 million denars.
With this, as reported by the Customs Administration, an attempt to evade payment of duties of 428 thousand denars was prevented.
In three other cases, customs officers at the Deve Bair border crossing prevented attempts to smuggle over 130 perfumes, including Armani, Marc Jacobs and Jal Paul Gaultier, during checks of cars and buses. The drivers, although asked if they had anything to declare, did not declare anything, after which, due to doubts in their declarations, a detailed check was carried out, during which the undeclared products were found. In the bus, the products were hidden in the luggage, while in the car, the perfumes with the signature of famous brands were discovered in a fabricated cavity in the luggage, in a bicycle box, in the back seats and in a suitcase among packed clothes.
Relevant procedures have been initiated against the perpetrators, citizens of North Macedonia – in five cases, misdemeanor proceedings, and in one case, criminal proceedings were initiated before the Kumanovo Public Prosecutor's Office.
Inspectors of the Department for Operational Affairs prevented several smuggling attempts during vehicle checks at border crossings within the country, as well as during checks of goods for import clearance. Spa center equipment, a large amount of clothing, car parts, tools, 15 liters of citrus cream, 234 pieces of face and hair cosmetics, 53 liters of black seed oil, a thousand pieces of LED spotlights and LED panels that violate intellectual property rights, cargo straps and other products for which the perpetrators tried to avoid paying duties to the state were seized.
In a case discovered inland, two Macedonian citizens were found loading goods from a bus into a passenger vehicle, for which they did not possess documents or proof of paid import duties. Appropriate proceedings have been initiated against all persons.
Customs officers of the Gevgelija customs office prevented an attempt to smuggle 2.3 tons of bananas and 400 liters of olive oil. The attempt to smuggle bananas was discovered at the Gevgelija customs office during the inspection of a shipment declared for import clearance, during which it was discovered that a larger quantity of bananas were not covered by customs documents, in which case the importer tried to avoid paying duties.
An attempt to smuggle 400 liters of olive oil was discovered at the entrance to the Dojran border crossing during a search of a vehicle driven by a German citizen. 24 kilograms of cut tobacco without excise stamps were found in the trunk of a car with Macedonian license plates, driven by a Macedonian citizen, during a search conducted by customs officers at the exit of the Bunarzhik Free Zone customs office.
Customs officers at the Delchevo border crossing point, on two separate occasions, during the inspection of a car and a truck, discovered attempts to smuggle truck parts, 100 liters of synthetic engine oil, tools, a drone and its parts, a camera and various goods. All the products found have been confiscated, and relevant procedures have been initiated against the perpetrators.
At the Deve Bair border crossing on the way out of the country, customs officers discovered 103 second-hand iPhones and BlackBerrys that a Bulgarian citizen was trying to smuggle. The phones were discovered during a search of the car he was traveling in, hidden in a box covered with a jacket and a backpack.
