Thursday's attacks on Kabul airport mark the deadliest day for US troops in Afghanistan in more than a decade.
In August 2011, a helicopter carrying US special forces was shot down by Taliban troops in the Tangi Valley, about 97 kilometers southwest of Kabul.
30 American troops died that day.
More than 60 people, 12 of them American servicemen, were killed by explosions this Thursday in Afghanistan. At the center of the attacks near the Kabul airport were Afghan citizens trying to leave for the United States or American service citizens.
The attacks took place near the Abbey Gate of Kabul airport and near a hotel known to be a British base. After the kamikaze explosions, gunfire began, causing dozens more deaths. There are hundreds of injured. The so-called Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attacks./tvklan.al
