The head of the European Union's foreign policy, Josep Borrell, said that the final agreement between Kosovo and Serbia will resolve, among other things, the issue of Kosovo's legal representation in various regional initiatives.
Answering the questions of the members of the European Parliament, Borrell expressed the need for a comprehensive agreement.
"Achieving a legally binding comprehensive agreement for the normalization of relations is the best basis for overcoming the issue of Kosovo's legal representation," said Borrell.
He confirmed that the Kosovo authorities are interested in Kosovo no longer being represented by the United Nations Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) in regional forums.
"The EU is ready to address this issue, including through dialogue for the normalization of Kosovo-Serbia relations, given that organizations such as CEFTA [Central European Trade Agreement] have their own structures, procedures and decision-making bodies, which also involve other parties," said Borrell.
He recalled that after the agreement reached in 2012 in the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, "Kosovo participates and speaks on its own in regional forums", provided that a footnote is added to its name.
Kosovo and Serbia have been in negotiations for the normalization of relations since 2011.
A new meeting between the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, and the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, has been announced for September.
