The death toll of at least 90 mostly Afghan civilians and 13 US soldiers is the preliminary result of twin suicide bombings by the Islamic State at Kabul's Hamid Karzai airport. More than 160 people remain injured from these suicide attacks.
The jihadist group operating in Pakistan and Afghanistan, a branch of the Islamic State, claimed responsibility for these suicide attacks. President Biden warned that ISIS attacks could continue, so he threatened the jihadist group with revenge. Despite this dire situation, evacuation efforts are continuing.
Thousands of refugees have arrived at Germany's Ramstein Air Base, the largest US Air Force base in Europe. Several families have been separated and more than a dozen children have come alone. These refugees are being temporarily settled at this air base, where they will stay for up to ten days and then be moved to another destination. More than 5,000 refugees have already been sent to the US.
More than 100 people have been evacuated so far from Afghanistan, which was seized by the Taliban on August 15.
