The United States administration has announced that three quarters of American adults have received at least one dose of the vaccine against COVID-19. The data was made public after the White House said that the American president, Joe Biden, will present a strategy with six priorities to control the coronavirus pandemic.
The plan is being made to combat the Delta variant, which is far more contagious, and comes as the reopening of schools has raised concerns about a faster spread of the virus. The return of children under the age of 12 to school, who cannot receive vaccines, has increased the fear that there may be an escalation of the epidemiological situation and, as a result, classes may be interrupted.
The United States has a substantial supply of vaccines, but a portion of the population is reluctant to get vaccinated. The Biden administration is planning to offer a third booster dose.
Meanwhile, the European Medicines Agency said this week that it is conducting an accelerated analysis of the benefits of a booster dose of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine in fully vaccinated people aged 16 and over. Despite this, many European countries have started to apply the injection of the third booster dose.
