US President Joe Biden, speaking from the White House, stated that since Monday, there has been a lot of progress and that the US has been able to secure the Kabul airport and is continuing with the evacuation of civilians.

"This is one of the largest and most difficult air operations in history,” he said as he vowed to evacuate every American from Afghanistan.

"We suspended flights out of Kabul this Friday morning to ensure that evacuees would continue to their transit countries." said the US president, who added that flights had resumed. He also said that 5700 people were evacuated only yesterday.

Further, Biden said that the US is in continuous contact with the Taliban. He said the militant group that already controls the country has been warned of a swift and strong response from the US if they launch attacks on Americans.

As a deadline, the American President left August 31st, but even this will depend on the developments in the following days.

Biden praised the American soldiers who are still in Afghanistan and are helping with evacuation operations.

There are at least 5 troops at the Kabul airport and their number is expected to rise to 6 in the coming hours.

Asked by reporters if the fall of Afghanistan has led to the loss of credibility of the United States in the eyes of the world, he said he had not seen such a thing happen.

"I don't want this to happen. In fact, it's the exact opposite." he insisted, adding that the US had acted decisively over the past few days./tvklan.al
