Hospitalizations due to Covid-19 are increasing in Italy
The Minister of Health in Italy has announced that new anti-Covid measures will be taken in Sicily, while there is an increase in hospitalizations.
Sicily will move into Italy's "yellow zone," Minister Roberto Speranza said, meaning people must wear masks indoors and outdoors and must respect social distancing. This is the first time in two months that measures against COVID-19 have been reinstated at the regional level.
"It has been confirmed that the virus has not yet been defeated and that our priority is to continue investing in the vaccination campaign,” Speranza said.
The president of the region said that these measures should be an "alarm bell", especially for the unvaccinated."What else needs to happen for them to obey?", said Nello Musumeci in a statement.
Italy has approved the health passport which contains data on whether a person has been vaccinated against Covid-19, has recently tested negative, or has recovered from the virus. The health passport is necessary for a number of activities.
