Archaeologists in Augsburg, Germany announced that they have made the most important discovery of Roman antiquities in more than 100 years, a load of 400 kilograms in total.
Archaeologist Sebastian Gairhos said "among the items discovered are weapons, tools, jewelry and 800 coins".
The discovery shows that the site was a fortress, part of an older Roman settlement in what is now the German state of Bavaria.
Coins and pottery shards indicate that the area was occupied between 8 and 5 BC, but archaeologists hope to make more concrete discoveries.
"This mass of discoveries offers great potential", Gairhos assessed.
The objects were discovered on the land of a former car factory. Augsburg has a history of more than 2 years and is considered one of the oldest cities in Germany.
