211 Afghans arrive at Rome airport evacuated from Kabul via Kuwait City, as part of the operation organized by the Italian Defense Ministry. After the anti-Covid procedure was completed, the refugees were transferred to the dedicated shelters.
The Italian media informed that for the said operation "Aquila Omnia", the Defense sent eight planes. 104 Afghan citizens who arrived yesterday in Bresciano, have undergone a medical examination today.
Red Cross staff in Italy say they are tired but happy to be in the neighboring country. Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio said on Thursday that Italy plans to transfer 2,500 people in total, among them about 500 Afghans who have cooperated with the Italian army have already been transferred with their families.
Thousands of people trying to flee the Taliban are around Kabul airport as the United States and other nations try to evacuate thousands of diplomats, civilians and Afghans.
