Today marks exactly 20 years since the terrorist attack on the twin towers on September 11, 2001, in the heart of New York. Some terrorists took four planes hostage and flew them hitting several important points in the United States.
Two planes crashed into the two towers of the World Trade Center, one into the walls of the Pentagon while a fourth crashed into the ground, after the heroic struggle of the passengers with the terrorists, who brought down the plane.
About 3 people died in the attacks. 184 people were killed at the Pentagon that day, including 59 passengers and crew members of the plane that crashed and 125 people inside the complex.
According to later evidence, the attack was aimed at the White House, but caused an even greater tragedy, which continues to be remembered as one of the largest attacks in American history.
In a video released on the eve of the 20th anniversary, he paid tribute to the 2,977 people who lost their lives.
"We honor all those who risked and gave their lives in the minutes, hours, months and years afterward," Biden added, referring to the emergency workers who responded to the attacks.
Memorial events are expected to take place today.
